This game was undoubtedly one of the funnest games of its time, allowing for up to 4 people play simultaneously and race on various tracks. The game is simple- you choose one of 8 possible characters and race around tracks filled with twists, turns, and other obstacles. Perhaps one of the games’ funnest features is the use of items. Items allow for certain things to happen. For example, a blue shell hits whoever is in first place, colliding with their car and wasting valuable time which allows for the other racers to surpass them. Items are extremely helpful on one end, and super annoying at the other. Featuring a total of 16 courses and four modes of gameplay, Mario Kart 64 was an instant party favorite.
